- Southampton City Council drops plans to charge vehicles [9th January 2018]
- Southampton civic chiefs have pushed back plans for a Clean Air Zone in the city, and will now submit proposals at the end of January – two months after originally billed. [16th November 2018]
What we know so far
Southampton City Council's consultation on Clean Air Zone plans closed on the 13th September. Under the current proposals the CAZ would cover most of the city (see map below) though this will be refined if the proposal meets with approval. Widespread opposition to the plans has caused some delays to the process.
Southampton Council are due to formally announce on 22nd January 2019 that there will no longer be any charging measures implemented - instead a raft of non-charging measures will be implemented in an effort to improve air quality. This comes after a fierce public backlash against charging proposals.
