Ryder's German Company Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

Ryder Europe’s company based in Germany has just celebrated 20 years of successfully
building its fleet and transportation management capabilities, including the establishment of a sophisticated Transportation Management Centre in Düsseldorf to service business within Europe.
Ryder established a fleet management business serving the Ministry of Defence (MOD) in Germany in late 1987, supplying highly specialised tank transporters and trailers. The company currently supplies and maintains a “white fleet” of 2,500 vehicles to seven Army garrisons and RAF stations in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, together with vehicle support in Poland and the Czech Republic. In addition, Ryder in Germany has four dedicated workshops, which are fully staffed by skilled technicians, and a supplier support network of over 60 German suppliers. It also operates a fleet of fully equipped specialist workshop vans to support the MOD contract across Northern Europe.
In 2001 Ryder relocated its logistics business creating a Transportation Management Centre at its headquarters in Düsseldorf, enabling the company to increase its emphasis and investment on this area of the business. The Centre offers pan-European services such as Shipment Planning and Execution of standard shipments, Freight Bill Audit and Payment, and Carrier Procurement. More recently it has added a Premium Freight Management Service.
Peter Backhouse, Vice President and Managing Director Ryder Europe, commenting said, “I believe the future will concentrate increasingly on technology that can work both on a local and global level. With the investments being made in our Transportation Management Centre in Düsseldorf, we will be extremely placed to provide pan-European solutions for our customers.” Backhouse concluded.
