Ryder Europe Milestones


1971Ryder Truck Rental established in UK with 250 trucks.
1972Ryder acquired Fisher Renwick Ltd gaining a presence in Contract Hire with locations at Park Royal and Dukinfield.
1974Ryder acquired Venture Transport, a London haulage company in Cricklewood.
1976Head office moves to CP House, Ealing.
1977Ryder ventures into mainland Europe and opens Ryder BV in Holland.
1978Ryder Europe appoints first Managing Director, Roger French.
1986Ryder acquired Mitchell’s Truck Rental in Portsmouth and Forest Truck Rental in the West of England.
1987Ryder enters the German market establishing Ryder GmbH.
1991First “Just in Time” contract with Nissan.
1992Company name changed to Ryder PLC to reflect changing scale of the business.
1994Federal Express Logistics business acquired building on the decision to add a Logistics arm to its Truck Rental and Contract Hire businesses.
Ryder also acquires Hallmark Contract Hire in Devizes.
1996Ryder awarded contract to supply 2,500 vehicles to 11 Army garrisons and Royal Air Force stations in Germany, Belgium and Netherlands.
1999Ryder selected by Derbyshire Fire Authority to repair and maintain a fleet of more than 135 front line fire fighting and support vehicles.
2001Ryder awarded fleet management contract by MoD Garrison Works Alliance.
Applied Materials award Ryder UK logistics contract.
2003Ryder re-secures MoD’s Defence School of Transport lease contract.
2004Ryder announces £8 million investment in new technology platforms.
Ryder re-secured GSL lease contract.
2005Ryder announces £36 million replacement and upgrading programme for the commercial vehicle rental fleet.
Ryder renews contracts with Nissan, MoD and Hewlett Packard.
2006Ryder announces new organisation structure focusing on Commercial Vehicles, Fleet Management and Supply Chain Solutions with a new brand positioning focusing on the essence of the business… “Ryder – Keeping Things Moving.”
Ryder expands Devizes offices for its Engineering and third party maintenance divisions and establishes a European Marketing function.
Ryder awarded 300 vehicle Fleet Management Contract with Gloucestershire County Council
2007Airedale NHS Trust extends contract with Ryder for Further 3 years
Ryder launches new 3 year TraineeTechnician Apprenticeship
