Ryder System, Inc today announced senior management changes at Ryder Europe. David
Hunt will assume responsibility for the commercial vehicle and fleet management operations in
the UK. Bruce Arlinghaus will assume responsibility for all UK logistics operations, alongside
his current Continental Europe logistics responsibilities, based at Ryder’s Transportation
Management Centre in Düsseldorf.
This move follows the resignation of Peter Backhouse, Managing Director and Vice President,
Ryder Europe, who will be leaving the company to pursue another opportunity outside of the
industry.

have achieved excellent business growth and performance,” commented David Bouchard,
Managing Director International, Ryder System, Inc. “The appointments of David and Bruce,
who will both report directly to me, will provide a seamless transition with minimum disruption to
the business.”
Peter Backhouse will be working with David Hunt and Bruce Arlinghaus over the next few
weeks to transition his responsibilities.

David Hunt joined Ryder in 1992 and has held a number of senior operational and financial positions in
both the UK and US. From 2002 he was General Manager Ground Fleet Services and then appointed
Finance Director, Ryder Europe in 2004.
Bruce Arlinghaus joined Ryder in 1996 joined Ryder as General Manager, Defence Logistics, Ryder
Germany. In 2000 he assumed responsibility for the Ryder Europe’s Continental European Operations
and in 2004 was appointed to his current position as Director Supply Chain Solutions Europe.
Peter Backhouse has been with Ryder Europe for 11 years, joining Ryder in 1997 as General Manager.
In 2000 he was appointed Managing Director responsible for fleet management and transportation
product lines throughout the UK and Germany. He subsequently took responsibility for all UK and
Continental Europe business channels. In 2001 he was appointed to his current position.
